Uniform confidence bands for functions estimated nonparametrically with instrumental variables

چکیده
This paper is concerned with developing uniform confidence bands for functions estimated nonparametrically with instrumental variables. We show that a sieve nonparametric instrumental variables estimator is pointwise asymptotically normally distributed. The asymptotic normality result holds in both mildly and severely ill-posed cases. We present an interpolation method to obtain a uniform confidence band and show that the bootstrap can be used to obtain the required critical values. Monte Carlo experiments illustrate the finite-sample performance of the uniform confidence band. JEL Classification Codes: C13, C14.

Bootstrap Partial Linear Quantile Regression and Confidence Bands∗
In this paper uniform confidence bands are constructed for nonparametric quantile estimates of regression functions. The method is based on the bootstrap, where resampling is done from a suitably estimated empirical density function (edf) for residuals. It is known that the approximation error for the uniform confidence band by the asymptotic Gumbel distribution is logarithmically slow. It is p...
متن کاملSemiparametric Instrumental Variable Estimation in an Endogenous Treatment Model1
In this paper we propose an instrumental variables (IV) estimator for a semiparametric outcome model with endogeous discrete treatment variables. The main contribution of our paper is that the identi cation, consistency and asymptotic normality of our estimator all hold even under misspeci cation of the treatment model. As expected from Newey and McFadden (1994), the covariance matrix for the p...
متن کاملMETHODS FOR NONPARAMETRIC AND SEMIPARAMETRIC REGRESSIONS WITH ENDOGENEITY: A GENTLE GUIDE By
This paper reviews recent advances in estimation and inference for nonparametric and semiparametric models with endogeneity. It first describes methods of sieves and penalization for estimating unknown functions identified via conditional moment restrictions. Examples include nonparametric instrumental variables regression (NPIV), nonparametric quantile IV regression and many more semi-nonparam...
متن کاملConfidence Intervals for a Semiparametric Approach to Modeling Nonlinear Relations among Latent Variables
Compared to parametric models, nonparametric and semiparametric approaches to modeling nonlinearity between latent variables have the advantage of recovering global relationships of unknown functional form. Bauer (2005) proposed an indirect application of finite mixtures of structural equation models where latent components are estimated in the service of more flexibly recovering characteristic...
متن کاملFunctional Analysis of Iranian Temperature and Precipitation by Using Functional Principal Components Analysis
Extended Abstract. When data are in the form of continuous functions, they may challenge classical methods of data analysis based on arguments in finite dimensional spaces, and therefore need theoretical justification. Infinite dimensionality of spaces that data belong to, leads to major statistical methodologies and new insights for analyzing them, which is called functional data analysis (FDA...
